Tell Us About Your Organization

ANOPA is a non-profit organisation based in Cape Coast, Ghana. Founded in 2010, their mission is to use sports such as swimming, football and basketball as a tool to facilitate individual development and promote gender equality, peacebuilding, inclusion and other key social skills amongst kids in the Central Region of Ghana. Their Sports for Development model shifts the focus of sports away from just being an end in itself, to a means of improving the lives of children, families and their community.

Who We Are

At ANOPA, volunteers can be fully immersed in their daily tasks and programs. The NGO has a long-term plan that volunteers must adhere to for a successful stay in Ghana. Experienced local coordinators and volunteers can provide unparalleled experiences for international visitors. Their program is based on the concept of using sports as a means of developing communities – rather than viewing sports just as an end goal, they understand its potential to positively affect the lives of children, families, and entire communities.

How Can People Help/Volunteer With You?

Most of their volunteering positions involve coaches and trainers of different sports and activities. Some of the most popular sports among the kids are swimming, basketball, volley, football, and other recreational activities.

Management or office positions are also available at times. Some of the skills that are often needed include social media management, writing of reports, monitoring, and evaluation among others.

What Makes You The Proudest About Your Organization?

As an organization that uses sports for the development of kids and teens, they are proud of using fun activities like swimming, basketball, volley, football among other recreational activities to bring inclusion and integration to deaf and blind children who otherwise form the excluded section of the society in our part of the world with limited opportunities to participate.
