The Careyes Foundation is a non profit organization organization seeking motivated volunteers to serve as English teachers in rural primary schools. They are partnered with ten schools in the beautiful Costalegre region, located along the Pacific coast of Jalisco, Mexico.
Here is what they say:
Our English teaching program reaches over 1,000 2nd-6th grade students, using an new methodology and curriculum specifically developed to meet the needs of the rural population that we serve.
If you are interested in teaching and learning from children, helping develop an innovative learning process, and making an impact in rural communities, we want to hear from you! Depending on individual interest, there may be additional opportunities for volunteers to participate in our other existing programs, help develop and coordinate new programs, and/or support various administrative aspects of our non-profit organization.
Volunteers will receive:
- Airfare (two round-trip flights for US citizens)
- Transportation
- Housing
- Stipend to cover basic expenses
Volunteers will also be provided with training in an innovative teaching method, as well as opportunities to build community relationships, create and coordinate programs, and participate in the administration of the organization.
Volunteers must be fluent in English and moderate in Spanish. Previous experience teaching and/or working with children is preferred.
We hope to find volunteers who can commit to teach for the full school year, from August 2016 through June 2017, although we may have availability from August-December 2016 or January-June 2017.
